Kirk Lee Aeder is one of Hawaii's most prolific sports photographers. For many years he has captured all the action at Hawaii's most pretigious sporting events including the NFL Pro Bowl, NCAA Hula Bowl, PGA Golf, Ironman Triathlon, Triple Crown of Surfing, and NCAA Maui Invitational basketball tourney. Constantly on the lookout for the unusual, nothing escapes his eye, including obscure events like the Mauna Kea Snowboarding champaionships held on the Big Island.

In 2002 a compilation of his writing and photography of sports in Hawaii was published by Island Heritage Publishing. 'The Great Hawaii Sports Journal' is a hard cover book full of colorful photos and facts about Hawaii's sporting culture. While there might not be any professional sports teams based in Hawaii, the Island's beauty still attracts the best athletes in the world anyway.
